How to Install Mods on Your Minecraft Server

Last updated on Jun 13, 2025

Mods allow you to change the game’s behaviour in deeper ways than plugins. You can add new blocks, creatures, gameplay mechanics, and much more. To install mods on your server, you need to use a compatible software like Forge or Fabric.

🛠️ Step 0: Install Forge or Fabric (Required to Use Mods)

Before uploading mods, you must ensure that your server is using Forge or Fabric, as Vanilla servers do not support mods.

How to install Forge or Fabric:

  1. Access your server’s control panel.

  2. Go to the "Versions" section.

  3. Choose Forge or Fabric, depending on the mods you want to install.

  4. Select the Minecraft version you want to use.

  5. Click "Reinstall server."

  6. Start the server from the Console.

📥 Step 1: Download the Mods

  1. Visit trusted mod websites such as:

  2. Make sure to:

    • Download the mod version that matches both your Minecraft version and the loader (Forge/Fabric) your server uses.

    • Also download any dependencies if required (these are usually listed in the mod description).

  3. Save the .jar files to your computer.

📂 Step 2: Upload the Mods to the Server

  1. Access your server’s files through the File Manager in the control panel, or via SFTP.

  2. Once inside, go to the /mods/ folder.

  3. Upload the .jar file of the mod you downloaded.

🔄 Step 3: Restart the Server

Once the mods are in the /mods/ folder, restart the server from the control panel so the mods can load.
